Getting Started with StarLogo Nova
Welcome to StarLogo Nova! This guide will help you get started with creating your first simulation project.
System Requirements
StarLogo Nova runs entirely in your web browser - no downloads required! To get started, you need:
- A modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge)
- A stable internet connection
Creating Your Account

Navigate to StarLogo Nova: Open your browser and go to https://sailctm.slnova.org/

Register for an Account: Click the Register button to create your account. You'll be prompted to enter:
- Username: Choose a unique username for your account
- Password: Create a secure password
- Password Confirmation: Re-enter your password to confirm
- Email (optional): Provide an email address for password reset purposes if needed

Log In: Once registered, log in with your new credentials
Your Project Gallery
After logging in, you'll see your Project Gallery. This will be empty initially since you're just getting started. As you create projects, they will appear here for easy access and management.
Creating Your First Project

Start a New Project: Click the + icon in the top right corner to create a new project

Choose Your Starting Point:
- Enter a title for your project
- Select from the available options:
- Blank Project: Start from scratch with an empty project
- First-Person Action Game: Begin with a pre-built action game template
- Biology Simulation: Start with a biology-focused simulation template

Enter the StarLogo Nova Interface: Once created, you'll be taken to the main development environment
Understanding the Interface
The StarLogo Nova interface is organized into three main areas:
Top Section - Project Tools
Contains project management tools including options to rename your project, add descriptions, manage tags, publish to galleries, toggle autosave settings, and add projects to your personal gallery.
Middle Section - 3D Viewport & Widgets
- 3D Viewport: The main simulation space where your agents move and interact
- Control Widgets: Interactive elements for controlling and monitoring your simulation
Bottom Section - Workspace
- Block Palette (left side): Library of available code blocks organized by category
- Workspace (center/right): Where you drag and connect blocks to create your simulation logic
You're now ready to start building your first StarLogo Nova simulation!
